Etching and cyanotype

The etching plates are prepared with hard ground or soft ground, sometimes aquatint, and etched using nitric acid. Each print is then rolled from an ancient press as one of a varied edition of up to 30. Although nominally one of an edition, every etching is unique. I make just a few prints at a time, sometimes layering two etchings together, or adding gold leaf; sometimes placing actual stems between the paper and the plate so that they become embossed within the print. The paper is cotton rag 300gsm, and the inks are oil based. Etchings are available from my studio. Prices £95 - £265. Please do message for more details.

This is my painting for Imago Mundi - the collection dedicated to England. I'm one of only 140 artists invited to paint for this collection which includes work by Richard Long, Yinka Shonibare, Ryan Gander and Martin Creed. The catalogue was released in 2020. Imago Mundi is 'the collection of works commissioned and collected by Luciano Benetton on his travels around the world, involving, on a voluntary and non-profit basis, established and emerging artists from many different countries. Each of them has created a work whose only restriction is its 10 x 12 cm format, contributing to the creation of a remarkable artistic geography.
